How AI Helped My Daughter For Her Exam

And Sparked A Business Idea...

My youngest, Annabelle, just wrapped up her VCE exams (think SATs if you’re in the US).

She asked for my help preparing for her business exam. There aren’t many exams where I add value, but in business, bring it on and let Dad pass on his extensive wisdom and experience.

Then I looked at her Study Guide…

Umm, There were a lot of concepts I had not heard of!

Now, she had one of those study summary guides – the type that tries to cram all the essential concepts into a single PDF.

So, I thought, “Let’s see what ChatGPT can do with this.” I uploaded the doc, and, just like that, there was an excellent summary.

Then I got cheeky.

“ChatGPT,” I said, “drill me on this document.” And it fired back with a whole set of questions, one after another.

Quick Tip: When you're asking AI for questions or to drill you - Ask it to go one at a time. The AIs tend to spit out a bunch of questions all at once.

We sat there, Annabelle and I, question after question, covering everything from CSR practices to corporate culture.

I asked the question, recorded Annabelle’s response, and uploaded it to ChatGPT to check. (The advanced speech was a bit glitchy when we were doing this - it will be Brilliant when they iron out the bugs)

Whenever we needed a little extra nudge or a more complex example, ChatGPT was right there, giving us exam-style prompts without missing a beat.

Perhaps the best part of this was the patience and encouragement ChatGPT showed.

It is an excellent tutor with encouragement and infinite patience.

Instead of just a blunt “wrong” or “try again” (or worse, a parental eye roll 🤦), it would say, “Good answer! You’re on the right track!”

Brilliant (Translation: Nice try, but you can flesh out your answer a bit.)

By the end of about 50 minutes, Annabelle was way more enthusiastic about her exam the next day.

She’d gone from “I’m going to fail” to realizing she knew far more than she thought.

It dawned on me that this wasn’t just about using AI to cram for a test. It was about transforming the whole study experience, making it dynamic, engaging, and even fun.
